The existence of a jail in Arapahoe County can be traced back to the first facility which was opened in 1865. The current location; 7375 South Potomac Street was opened over a century later; in 1987, and has since undergone expansions as well as renovations to increase its capacity and improve its safety and security.

The Arapahoe County Jail & Detention Center located in Centennial Colorado fulfills the same duties as other such facilities throughout Colorado; its primary functions being the housing of inmates. Inmate Visits

The detention center allows on-site visits to eligible inmates, all persons wishing to visit an inmate must first have that inmate include them in their visitors list. Upon being approved visits must be schedule 2 days in advance by visiting the Securus website. Visits are allowed throughout the week with an exception to Wednesdays. Visits are for 30 minutes; starts at the scheduled time and ends 30 minutes after regardless of the time a visitor arrives. Visiting hours are from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

All visitors are required to present a valid government issued ID in order to access the facility. Visitor under the age of 18 must be under adult supervision at all times in order to access as well as remain in the facility. Visits are limited to 2 persons per inmate and inmates are allowed 3 visits per week dependent on their status as well as work schedules. All visits are recorded may be eligible for prosecution in court, violations to the rules of the facility by visitors could result in a revocation of their visitation privileges.
